Historic Sites

Fort Massac State Park is a combination of scenic beauty and historic area with a replica 1802 American Fort, a museum and visitor center.

On November 11, 1803, Lewis and Clark arrived at Fort Massac. Two volunteers from Fort Massac met Captain Lewis's standards and became members of the expedition.

Overlooking the Ohio River, Fort Massac State Park offers scenic views, rich history, and outdoor fun. As Illinois’ first state park, it features nearly 1,500 acres for hiking, camping, fishing, boating, disc golf, and more.

Enjoy year-round programs and the popular Fort Massac Encampment each October, bringing colonial history to life in a stunning natural setting.
