Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade & River Dyeing
Sat, Mar 14 , 2026 10:00am
Chicago River between State and Columbus, Chicago, IL 60605
Chicago is home to one of the world's most famous St. Patrick's Day celebrations, with traditions going back more than 175 years.
The dyeing of the Chicago River has been a tradition for many generations and attracts thousands of people from around the world each year. The best place to watch the green river dyeing is along the Chicago River between State and Columbus.
This parade is packed with all things Irish - colorful floats waving green/white/orange flags, troops of Irish step dancers, booming marching bands and bagpipers, and, of course, anything green! It happens rain or shine and lasts for about three hours. If you want more elbow and viewing room, we recommend snagging a spot toward the start of the parade in Grant Park (Columbus & Balbo).
The 2026 St Patrick's Day celebrations begin with the Chicago River dyeing at 10 am, followed by the Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade.
